Marion L. Miller
(Unknown publication date)

Marion L. Miller was born at Stockton, Cedar County, MO on 4 Sept 1843, a son of Elijah Miller (1811-1851) and Hannah J. Gartin. His father died in 1851 in the state of California where he had ventured to find his riches in the gold fields of that state during what is known in history as "The Gold Rush Days".
The next year his wife, Hannah Gartin-Miller brought her children to Miller County and I suspect she came to Miller County because her Gartin kinfolks were living there. Hannah Gartin Miller was a daughter of Hugh and Rachel Gartin who were early settlers of Miller County.
The children of Elijah Miller and Hannah Gartin were:
4. Ellen Miller 1841- No record found of death or marriage
5. Hugh J. Miller 1841-1930 m. Nancy Jane Walker
(I have to wonder if Henry, Ellen, and Hugh were all born the same year-triplets ???)
6. Marion L. Miller 1843-1925 m. (1) Martha Wadkins (2) Martha Lumpkin-Wadley
7. Boyd S. Miller 1845-1902 m. Margaret Jennetta Stephens
8. Anna M. Miller 1847-1929 m. Joel Jefferson Haynes
9. Mary/Polly Ann Miller 1849-1929 m. John J. M. Wyrick
In 1861, Marion L. Miller married Martha Wadkins (1843-1866) and they had a child, William Miller, who was living at Henley, Cole County, MO when his father died in 1925.
After Martha died he married his second wife, Martha Jane Lumpkin-Wadley in 1867 and she died in 1917. She gave birth to 4 children by Marion including: Esom M. Miller 1875-1955 m. Minnie Campbell; Margaret Luella Miller m. William P. Klindt; Ollie Miller (no other info found) and a daughter who married Neal Norfleet (no name found for her).
Marion became a member of the Hickory Hill Baptist Church in nearby Cole County and remained active in the church until his death.....His second wife, Martha, preceded Marion in death in 1917 and was buried at Spring Garden Cemetery in northern Saline township.
Marion died 28 September 1925 at the age of 82 years. He was survived by 4 children, 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was buried beside Martha at Spring Garden where many members of the Miller family are resting today.
