My name is John Wirken living in the Netherlands and searching for my ancestors. The first we could find is Petri(e) Wirici. When I search that name on the internet it is similar to many other names/ degenerated to: Weyrich, Wyrich, Wiricus, Wieriks, Wirix, Wirigs, Wirks, etc. The son of Petri(e) was born in 1587. So it could be that his father was Peter Weyrich /Wyrick born in 1567. I hope to find an answer to this search.

Interesting history. I'm a descendent of the Shelton family from Miller County through my mother who grew up there. I done some research and I believe than Haman Shelton is the first Shelton from our branch to arrive in Miller County around 1820. Our people also settled in NC and TN before arriving in Miller County. My grandfather was Robert Shelton who was for a time a judge in Miller County. His father was Bennett Shelton. I believe that all these Shelton's are related.

Thank You for your Web site. My Mother was a Shelton from Miller County and I was very close to that family. My mother Bonnie Shelton was born near Iberia in 1932. She was the daughter of Robert (Bob) Shelton ( my grandfather who was a Judge and farmer ). His father was Bennett Shelton. I grew up near Jefferson City, Mo but spend many Summers on the Shelton farm. There were many Shelton's near by and I still have a few Shelton family members living near Iberia. My aunt Thelma completed a Shelton family history starting in VA. It is very interesting to me that the Shelton's family had a very Rich and famous start in England however the American Shelton family was for the most part poor pioneers and farmers. However, this is a common story with many immigrant's coming to American, they came with little else but the shirt on their back. I would be glad to share the Ancestry Info I have on the American Shelton's.

I just found this website this morning and am thrilled to get the information. I am a descendant of the Gardner family back in Barren County, Kentucky. In "The Gardner, Bailey, and Allen Families of Miller County" Peggy mentions that she has copies of William and Sarah's marriage license and also William's will. Is it possible to get copies of those documents from you? William is my 3rd great grandfather. I have been led to believe that he was the son of Jacob Gardner, a man who was half Catawba Indian. However, no mention is made of that in Peggy's writings. This leads me to think I have been given incorrect information. But an article in "Traces", a quarterly publication of the South Central Kentucky Historical and Genealogical Society, alludes to Jacob Gardner (Indian Heritage) living near Sinking Creek in Logan County. Peggy places Sinking Creek in Barren County. Thank you.

My parents, Herb and Mary Goosen, moved our family to Iberia in the spring of 1957. They operated the Iberia Cleaners near the bank that was on a corner. I remember well when someone held the family of the bank president (I believe) hostage while they forced the president to go to the bank and give them money. To my knowledge, no one was harmed. As a small child, I couldn't believe this was happening. The brick school I attended for my second, third and fourth grade years was located either on or near Clay street as my sister, Joyce, and I walked a short distance from our home which was located on Clay Street. Mrs. Atwell (2nd and 3rd) and Mrs. Ponder (4th) were my teachers. My sister's fifth grade teacher was a minister's wife. I think the principal's name was Mr. Jones. Each Friday afternoon the school gathered in the basement where he led us in singing songs. We also performed educational skits and played games. The kitchen was in the basement. Pigs in a Blanket was my favorite lunch! In the Spring the entire school participated in the May Pole dance in the school yard. My baby brother, David, was born during this time. His babysitter was a lady who was affectionately known as "Grady" who lived above the drugstore which was run by the Shackelford's. In the summer of 1959 we had to move to Crocker as my parents were expanding the cleaners to include a laundry and needed a larger building. I'll always treasure the memories I made in those three years in Iberia. Thank you for this website and the opportunity to share.
