(Printed in THE MILLER COUNTY AUTOGRAM-SENTINEL in the column, 'WINDOW TO THE PAST', April 8, 2013)

GEORGE AMOS WALL (on the left) was born March 10, 1865 near Hawkeye in northern Pulaski County , MO. He was a son of Anderson Andrew Wall (1825-1902) and his wife, Mary Jane (Long) Wall (1838-1916). George Amos Wall married Sarah Elizabeth Boren in Miller County 19 Nov 1885. She was a daughter of James C. and Martha Catherine Boren of the Hawkeye community.

Sarah Elizabeth, called Sally, was a sister to Uncle Hite Boren of Hawkeye. I had the pleasure of visiting and talking with “Uncle’ Hite on several occasions and recorded some of his fantastic memories on a tape recorder before his death in the early 1980s. He had reached beyond the age of 100 years when I visited with him and, even though blind, his memories were so vivid and unforgettable.

George Amos was one of several children born to Anderson and Mary Jane (Long) Wall including:

1. James Anderson Wall b. c/1862 m. Mary Jane Boren
2. Mary Jane Wall 1863-1885 m. James Keeth
3. George Amos Wall 1865-1956 m. Sarah Elizabeth/Sally Boren
4. Nancy A. Wall b. c/1867 m.____________
5. John R. Wall b. c/1869 m. Liza Griffin
6. Harriett Emeline Wall 1871-1950 m.Charles W. Condra
7. Sarah D. Wall b. c/1873 m. Francis Marion Doolin
8. Lewis Wall b._____ m. 1) Sarah Atkins/Eakenborn 2) Martha Brumley
9. Minnie W. Wall b._____ m. 1) George Baugher 2) Curtis Willard

During their 68 years of marriage, George Amos and Sarah/Sally Wall became parents of five children:

1. James Oscar Wall died in infancy
2. Fred Wall 1893-1962 m. Stella Martin 1918
3. Arthur Wall m.__________(he lived in Lamar , MO in 1956)
4. Medie Ellen Wall 1891-1987 m. Harry Haus 1912
5. Grace B. Wall 1903-1990 m. Joe Lee Bond 1922

George’s children married into the central Missouri families of Atwell, Wall, Shelton , Blankenship, Keeth, Cox, Adams, Gilson, Rook, Smith, Sloan, and Jackson so their descendants just keep multiplying.

When George Amos Wall died on March 28, 1956, he was survived by 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a sister (Minnie Willard of Richland , MO ) and a brother (Lewis Wall of Sand Springs , Oklahoma ). His services were conducted by Rev. Donald Tyler and then he was buried at Madden Cemetery in southern Richwoods township.

Some of George’s ancestors (the Long family) came to Miller County from Greenup County, Kentucky in the mid 19th century. His father (Anderson Andrew Wall) had a large number of children by 2 wives, who were half-sisters. His first wife was Mary V. LONG, daughter of George William Long and Sarah Stewart. His second wife was Mary Jane LONG, daughter of George William Long and Mary/Polly Pennington. When you start researching families and you find that a man marries a couple of wives and both have daughters they name Mary then problems begin to arise ! ! ! ! I am still confused and have had a difficult time trying to figure out just who belonged to whom ~ ~ ~ ~

AT TIMES, GENEALOGY CAN BE SO MUCH FUN BUT CAN SLOWLY DRIVE YOU CRAZY ! ! MY LAST COUNT, OLD GEORGE WILLIAM LONG HAD FATHERED 20 CHILDREN BY 2 WIVES AND WITH THAT STATEMENT, I AM GIVING UP ON THIS FAMILY………
