Parathenia Minnie Smith

(Unknown publication date)

Parathenia Minnie Smith (on the left) was born 13 Apr 1869 in Miller County and died 24 June 1918 at Oronogo, Jasper Co., MO. at the home of her younger sister, Gracey Mae Smith-Lollar-May. Evidently after her husband (Paul Ress) died in 1916, she left St. Louis and moved to southwest MO. where some of her kinfolks had moved including Gracey Mae, and brothers: Charley, James Paulin, and John T.

It is my understanding that the men were all employed in the mines in that section of MO. in the early 1900s. The men all died down there in accidents.......Gracey Mae left the area and later married a man with the last name May, so as my aunt Idolia once told me... "Aunt Gracey's name became Gracey Mae May"!!!!!!

[Parthenia Minnie Smith was an older sister to my grandfather, Henry Franklin (Cap) Smith of Iberia.]

Minnie's second husband, Paul Ress, was about 10 years younger than she was but was in poor health. He died at the age of about 37 years in 1916 in a tuberculosis sanitarium in St. Louis. Her first husband was Rector Henry Thompson of Iberia but they divorced and she married Ress......she had a child out of wedlock named Clyde Smith who was raised by my great grandparents, William Harrison and Lucy (Gardner) Smith at Iberia.

That was the only child she ever had.......According to the obits, both Minnie and Paul Ress are buried at Iberia Cemetery but in unmarked graves. They may be near her parents, Harrison and Lucy, who are buried there.
