Margaret C. Sartor was born 25 January 1848 near Ulman, Glaize township, in Miller County. Peggy is the nickname for Margaret, so she was called Peggy during her lifetime.

NOTE: I have been asked many times if my real name was Margaret and called Peggy instead, but the answer is “No” …. I am just plain Peggy.
I believe Margaret/Peggy was the daughter of Thomas S. Sorter and Sarah Enoch who married in Cole County in 1832. They were probably living in what is today northern Miller County but before 1837, the land north of the Osage River was a part of Cole County. If she was a daughter of Thomas S. Sorter, then I am from her Sorter family lineage. My great, great, great grandmother was Nancy Sorter (sister to Thomas) who married Jonathan Loveall. Thomas and Nancy were children of William and Delilah Sorter of South Carolina. The name Sartor has been spelled several different ways in some research I have conducted over the years including: SARTOR, SARTER, SORTER, & PSALTER……..
Margaret/Peggy married James Andrew Barlow on March 6, 1871 (per her obituary), but I could find no official record of their marriage in Miller County. James Andrew Barlow (1853-1930) was a son of James M. and Julia Ann (Robinett) Barlow who were natives of Kentucky and lived in Arkansas before coming to Miller County . He was only 18 years old when he married Margaret while she was about 23 years of age.
Margaret and James became parents of 9 children but I only found record of 8 offspring……

According to information found in her obituary, Margaret became a member of the Methodist Church called Pleasant Hill in neighboring Camden County. I do not know if they lived there for awhile but do know she moved her membership to the Iberia Methodist Church in 1908.
Margaret died on April 29, 1935 at the age of 65 years. She had been preceded in death by her husband, James Barlow, in 1930. Her funeral services were held at the Hickory Point Baptist Church, conducted by her Methodist pastor, Rev. G. T. Bishop, of the Iberia Methodist Church. She was buried beside James in the Hickory Point Cemetery.
