Charles Wesley Umstead was born near Tuscumbia on 14 June 1873. He was the son of William Umstead, born in Pennsylvania, and Lucy Ann Hackney, born in Missouri.... I believe William was one of several children born to Henry Umstead and one of his 2 wives. Henry was born in Pennsylvania in 1808. His first wife's name is not known; the second wife was Helen ____Umstead.
William and Lucy Ann (parents of Charles) died when both were young. They had 2 children:
Lotta W. Umstead m. John Watson
Charles Wesley Umstead m. Eva Bear
William & Lucy died about 5 years apart.... Their children were reared by Wesley & Eliza Hackney. I believe that Lucy Ann Hackney-Umstead was a sister to Wesley Hackney. When Charles Wesley was about 22 yrs. old he married Eva Bear, born in Ohio. Their children included:
 Hazel Umstead b. 1897 m. (1) Guy W. Smith (2) Clyde Humphrey
Wm H. Umstead b. 1898
Infant son died before 1900
 Deane Umstead m. _____ Leinkeuhler
 Grace Ann m. ______Farmer
 Fred Umstead
 Karl W. Umstead
Charles Wesley Umstead died at age 77 yrs in 1950 and was buried in Tuscumbia Cemetery. His wife, Eva Bear Umstead, died 10 years later in 1960 and was placed by Charles at Tuscumbia....
