ST. ELIZABETH COUPLE HIGHLY HONORED ON GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: Entire Community Joins in Celebration for Mr. and Mrs. John Volmert; Day Begins with High Mass and Address by Rev. H. J. Mayer.

John and Elizabeth (Buechter) Volmert celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at St. Elizabeth with a large number of relatives and friends from far and near came to pay honor to them. At the noon hour and again at the night hour, feasts were spread of many good things to eat, which all present enjoyed with thanksgiving. Later, a dance was given at the Farmers Exchange hall where both old and young enjoyed the evening's festivities. The witnesses at their wedding 50 years earlier including Mrs. Katherine Schwaller of Eugene and Fred Volmert of Vienna were present for the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Volmert were the first couple to observe their golden wedding anniversary, who were married in St. Lawrence parish. The honorees received many nice and useful presents and many congratulations were given to this splendid couple and wished them many more years of happy married life.

Their six surviving children, 26 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren were all present except one grandchild, Sister Martina of the Order of St. Marys in St. Louis. Their children present were: Mrs. Antone Evers (Gertrude), Mrs. Herman Kliethermes (Lena), Mrs. George Evers (Mary), Mrs. Conrad Hake (Ida), William Volmert and Frank Volmert.

NOTE: My late husband, Ambrose Hake, was one of the grandchildren present for this celebration. He was 5 years old and remembered the day very well. His parents, Conrad and Ida (Volmert) Hake from Marys Home, were among the celebrants.
